Sundowns Extend Lead at the Summit

Mamelodi Sundowns delivered a statement performance at a packed Loftus Versfeld, defeating Orlando Pirates 2-1 to tighten their grip on the DStv Premiership title race.

Goals from Peter Shalulile and Lucas Ribeiro Costa were enough to secure all three points, despite a late consolation from Pirates striker Evidence Makgopa.

"We controlled the game from start to finish," said Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena. "The boys showed real character."

The result means Sundowns now sit five points clear at the summit, while Pirates remain second but with a game in hand.
